世界学子向往的学术圣地——苏州工业园区外国语学校学术校长郭玉贵就美国大学起源、崛起、特点和优势做讲座
4月12日，苏州工业园区外国语学校为全体9年级，10年级学生及家长举办了一场以海外大学申请为主题的讲座。由园外学生发展中心资深留学规划师钱华老师、北雅国际英语副校长周爽女士、园外学术校长郭玉贵博士分别做演讲。本次讲座共分为三大部分：世界名校之路；海外留学的语言学习；美国大学的起源、崛起、特点和优势。
On April 12, 2019, SIPFLS invited Ms. Hua Qian, Ms. Shuang Zhou and Dr. Yugui Guo to give a lecture about university application to year 9 and year 10 students and their parents. The lecture mainly included three parts: the road to world top universities, English learning for studying abroad, and American universities and education.
首先，园外学生发展中心的钱华老师为大家介绍了近年来我校国际高中部学生的大学申请情况。她鼓励学生和家长们要有申请世界名校的信心。因为园外的学生们不仅在学术课程上占有很大优势，在英语学习氛围上也遥遥领先。在过去的几年里，我校学生取得了喜人的成绩，收到了众多世界名校的offer，可谓是硕果累累。学校将继续在通往世界名校的路上，为广大学生助力。钱老师以其二十多年的国外大学申请经验，给大家提出四点宝贵的建议：明确目标、早做准备、合理选择、持之以恒。
Firstly, Ms. Qian from the SIPFLS Academic Advising Office introduced the situation of recent-year application. She encouraged students and their parents that they should have confidence and ambition to apply the world top universities since students in SIPFLS have advantages in academic courses, activities and English environment. SIPFLS has gratified achievements in receiving offers from world top universities and hopes to help more students to access there. Based on Ms Qian’s nearly 20 years of experience on university application, she gave the audiences four suggestions: target clearly, prepare early, select wisely, and follow up insistently.
接着由北雅国际英语副校长周爽女士为大家介绍了英语等级考试的重要性及合理的学习时间及方法。她生动地为大家讲解了现今两大主流英语等级考试----“托福”和“雅思”的区别，并为学生们分析了如何结合自己的学习目标及英语水平来选择这两门考试。
Then, Ms. Zhou, the vice principal of Beiya International English Institution, talked about the importance of standardized English test as well as the timing and method to learning for that. She specified the distinction between two main-stream English tests, TOEFL and IETLS, and explained how to choose between them with respective to students’ targets and English level.

最后，我校学术校长郭玉贵博士，从美国大学的起源、崛起、特点和优势详细解读了美国之所以成为世界学子向往的学术圣地的原因。郭校长从世界文明发展史的角度为大家介绍了美国大学与欧洲大学的渊源和它们之间的继承脉络、美国大学的创新和对世界大学的发展所作出的巨大贡献，重点介绍了美国大学的各种类型与特点，最后分析了中国学生、尤其是园外学生申请美国大学的优势和方向等。郭校长的精彩讲座赢得了阵阵掌声，为本次活动画上了圆满的句号。
After that, Dr. Guo, the academic principal of SIPFLS, gave a speech on U.S. universities and education.He introduced the origin between European universities and American universities, the inheritance and connection between them, the innovation of American universities and great contribution to the universities in the world. He also introduced the various types and features of American universities and finally analyzed the advantages and directions of applying for American universities for the Chinese students, especially students of our school.
He ended today’s lecture in warm applause.
通过本次专题讲座，学生们对如何展开自己的学习计划有了清晰的认知，也对在接下来的高中学习阶段需要为升学做哪些准备有了更深入的了解。最后衷心地的祝愿所有园外国际高中部学生都能考入理想的大学!
Through listening today’s sharing, the audiences are clearer on how to start their future study plan and what they need to prepare at different phases of high school. Wish all the SIPFLS students could enter an ideal university!

今天在听过了由钱老师、周老师以及郭教授带来的讲座过后，感触良多，并且从中获得了许多对我未来出国留学十分有用的信息，尤其是在对未来高中两年的学业规划以及大学申请方面。其次，郭教授在演讲中对于美国大学历史以及优势方面的分享也使我记忆犹新，更加明确了自己的目标，并且坚信只有不断的努力，才能使自己的小船到达梦想的港湾！
After the lecture given by Ms. Qian, Ms. Zhou and Professor Guo, I had a lot of feelings and gained many useful information about my future study abroad, especially in terms of my academic planning for the next two years in high school and university application. Besides that, Professor Guo’s sharing of the history and advantages of American universities in his speech also impressed me a lot. I firmly believed that the only way can make my own boat reach the dream harbor is studying hard !

在听完有关申请大学的讲座之后，我受益匪浅。今天的演讲主题“通往世界名校之路”，里面包含了许多对我们未来升学起到重要作用的信息，如钱老师为我们分析的大学类别及升学介绍，让我们对升学计划有了一个具体的了解。周老师则为我们介绍了出国前必须准备的语言考试—雅思和托福。最后由园外的学术校长跟我们分享了世界范围内大学的创办历史。我觉得这次讲座对我们很有用，因为我们即将进入高二，应该开始考虑有关升学的事情了。这场讲座犹如及时雨，让我们对未来有了更清晰的规划,帮助我们成为更好的大学申请者。
I learned a lot after attending the presentation arranged by our school. The topic was ‘The Road To The Top Universities’, which included many useful information that can help us with our applications in future. Ms. Qian analyzed different types of universities and provided useful tips of how to apply for them, which helped us have a specific understanding of future application plans. Moreover, Ms. Zhou introduced the language test which we need to take before attending any university abroad including TOEFL and IELTS. Last but not least, Mr. Guo, the academic president of SIPFLS, gave us a vivid lecture about the history of creation of universities worldwide. We all agree that the lecture held this time is of great use to us students since it is the time for us to start considering application and in the coming school year when we will enter Grade 11. The lecture is a timely help which leads us to come up with plans that will surely equip us to be better candidates.

今天我们学习了很多前辈们的经验。老师们讲了一些有关选择大学的建议和标准以及这些大学的历史发展。很显然对于我们高中生来说，目前最重要的便是勤奋上进得以考上理想的大学。今天老师们详细地分析问题，并且耐心地回答了学生和家长的疑问。老师们根据学生的年级以及未来想要求学的国家，并且结合学生们的综合能力，列举出了各个国家适合他们就读的大学。通过这次讲座，我们更加深入了解了很多海外求学的知识。
Today we learnt experience of studying abroad from the lecture. The professionals offered some suggestions on choosing universities and historical development of these universities. Obviously, it is the most important for us to work much harder to get into our ideal institutions. Teachers gave us some detailed explanations on questions from students and parents. In addition, they also listed some universities that were suited to the students according to the countries they wanted to go and their comprehensive abilities. In short, we learnt a lot of facts about studying abroad.

园外学术指导中心钱华女士，北雅国际英语校长周爽女士，园外学术校长郭玉贵先生先后就大学申请的相关问题进行了详细讲解。首先，通过历届毕业生的数据，家长和学生了解到我们高中生在世界各地都很“抢手”，BC、IB、IA课程都是在国际上受到认可的知名课程，世界名校也并非遥不可及。其次，关于英语语言学习的具体信息与方法技巧，北雅英语的夏令营为我们提供了学习英语的另一种选择。最后。关于世界名校的发展，郭校长为我们详细地讲解了文化与教育传承的历史，让我们对于美国大学有更深入的了解。
Ms.Qian Hua, teacher of Academic Advising Office, Ms.Zhou Shuang, Principal of Beiya International English and Mr.Guo Yugui, Academic Principal of SIPFLS, offered detailed explanations on issues related to university application.Firstly, through the data of the graduates from our school, parents and students noticed that they spread all over the world. BC,IB and IA are all famous programs that are accepted by many universities. Actually, excellent universities are close to us! As for English learning, Beiya International English Summer Camp provided us another good choice. Finally, Mr.Guo talked about the development of world-famous universities. He elaborated on the history about culture and education, which gave us deeper understanding about American universities.

首先感谢苏州工业园区外国语学校安排的这次海外大学申请方面的讲座！
从升学指导钱老师分享的数据中，了解到前几届我们园外IB高中毕业生被录取的全球各大院校名单，包括加拿大、英国等，美国大学的名单也比往届多了很多。这些数据给了我们信心，当然也包括压力和动力。当初给孩子选择被国际知名学府认可的IB高中体系是明智的，希望孩子的认知体系能全方位开拓。
北雅国际英语副校长周爽女士的分享，给了我们对于英语考试的紧迫感，唯一要做的就是尽力而为。
让我收获最大的是郭玉贵校长对美国大学的起源、崛起以及特点和优势的分享，内容非常丰富饱满，由于信息量太大，拍了每张PPT，我会和孩子再次回顾、认真研读。
给我印象深刻的一点是：“美国虽然只有两百多年的历史，却传承了两千多年的欧洲文明史”。
美国的大学继承了从古希腊的哲科思想到现代大学的纯科学研究精神，并在二战以后又大量吸纳了欧洲的科学与人文的精英…这的确为将来选择美国大学增加了不少信心。
另外，重视学生的研究能力、通识知识和社会服务，是优秀大学的共同点。这也很符合IB国际高中的教学方向，因此深感欣慰。
特别感谢郭校长将他的著书《全球人力资源战略的历史演变与启示》赠予我们，我会认真拜读，在求学的道路上我愿意跟孩子一起努力和进步。

学术校长郭玉贵博士，围绕美国大学的起源，崛起，特点和优势，为我们作了精彩的报告，原来美国大学作为世界高等教育的引领者，也是二战后才真正成为世界科学和文化的中心！听到老师剖析“4杯拿铁，4小时睡眠，4.0的执着”当下真实的美国高中生的教育现状，想着现在在园外同样为要考上理想大学努力学习中的孩子们，觉得老师的提醒：重视时间管理，思虑着要怎么去落实、帮助孩子才好呢？
我们是IA美国融合高中班的课程学习，但是语言学习选择了雅思英语，根据老师的时间规划，还有一年的时间（两个暑假，一个寒假），孩子需要尽早通过雅思考试，唯有打好扎实的语言基础，才能更好地全身心投入IB课程的系统学习。郭校长为我们阐述的园外学生的优势之一就是园外的IBDP国际高中文凭课程，不同于现在很多学校都开设的国际留学班的学习，孩子们不出国门就能学到IB课程的精华所在，从IB体系毕业的学生能很好地适应大学高要求高强度的学术生活。美国融合高中的课程虽然不完全等同于IB课程，相信孩子们在老师的教导下，一定也能取得理想的成绩，考上理想的大学！我想我现在能做的就是珍惜这两年的高中时光，和孩子一起多读几本好书，把汉语母语基础打得更扎实再扎实些！
