“美国的大学好在哪里”主题演讲交流
2019年3月11日中午，苏州工业园区外国语学校在校艺术厅举行了一场主题为“美国的大学好在哪里”的演讲交流活动。
At noon of 11th March 11, 2019, SIPFLS held a speech activity, themed “What are the key advantages about U.S. universities?” in the school auditorium.
本次讲座主讲人为华盛顿常春藤孵化基地创始人张冬梅博士，参加活动的嘉宾还有苏州工业园区外国语学校董事长张永红女士、执行校长潘鑫先生、副校长刘栋艳女士和学术校长郭玉贵博士。活动由国际高中部副主任张峰先生主持，IB国际高中十年级和十一年级全体学生和老师参加了此次活动。
The speaker is Dr. Demi Zhang, the founder of Elite Institute of Education. The school administrators have attended the speech. Jacky Zhang, the deputy director of IB department, hosted the activity. The students from IB year 10 and 11 and teachers participated in the activity.
讲座当天上午，董事长张永红、副校长刘栋艳、学术校长郭玉贵陪同张博士参观校园、了解考察了园外的IB项目，所以在讲座现场他们表示，园外的学生身处一个非常幸运的时代，可以与国际接轨，享受世界上最优质的课程项目。
Accompanied by school administrators, Dr. Zhang visited our campus. Both Dr. Zhang and Dr. Guo thought highly of IBDP program in SIPFLS. They mentioned that our students are living in a lucky era with international standards, enjoying the best quality curriculum in the world.

活动伊始，郭玉贵校长简要介绍了张冬梅博士，张博士毕业于中国最优秀的学府之一——北京大学，毕业后赴美留学工作，并曾就职于世界最著名的咨询公司麦肯锡。在美国求学工作了27年，张博士非常了解美国名校青睐什么样的学生。
When it started, principal Dr. Guo briefly introduced Dr. Demi Zhang’ s study and work experience. After graduation from Beijing University, Dr. Zhang took further study in the U.S. and entered the most famous consultancy company – McKinsey. Having been living and studying in the United States for nearly 27 years, Dr. Zhang clearly knows what types of students are favored by the top universities in America.
整个演讲交流活动分为两个环节。在第一个环节，张冬梅博士结合自身求学与工作经历与同学们分享了为什么去美国求学，以及美国大学究竟好在哪里。张博士引用了比尔盖茨、扎克伯格等例子阐明美国学校“学以致用”的教育理念，比起学习成绩，美国学校更看重和强调对于知识的运用、创新以及实践的能力。张博士说，园外的教育理念和做法已经跟美国接轨，有些地方做的比美国还要好。她寄语学生在这么好的平台基础上，要珍惜、努力。
The whole speech involved two sessions. In the first half, Dr. Zhang shared her personal study and work experience with students to explain why studying in the U.S. and the key advantages about American universities. She clarified the educational philosophy of “learning for real-world application” by citing the examples of Bill Gates and Zuckerberg. Compared to academic performance, US universities are more likely to think highly of and highlight the skills of knowledge application, creativity and practices. In the light of this, Dr. Zhang expressed that our students have already been endowed with an excellent platform where they could enhance the basis through more attention and more participation.
第二个环节是张博士与IB国际高中的学生和老师交流互动。教师代表和学生代表分别就如何申请美国大学，申请美国大学的课程区别等问题展开了交流。张博士最后总结：申请美国顶尖大学不仅需要学习成绩，更需要你各项课外活动和社会活动的经历和成绩，对家庭和社会贡献。相信经过这次交流活动，同学们对于未来的学习和大学申请会有更明确的方向和规划。
The second session was interaction among Dr. Zhang and students as well as teachers. The teacher and student representatives asked questions about how to apply U.S. universities and the differences among some university programs respectively. Dr. Zhang summarized that the top U.S. universities do not only require good academic records, but also emphasize the importance of all-around development. We firmly believe that students will have clearer and efficient plans for their future study and university application after the exchange activity.
