兴趣是最好的老师——园外初中部选修课之电声乐队、篮球队篇
在苏州工业园区外国语学校初中部的课程体系中，内容丰富的选修课程受到孩子们的热烈欢迎。选修课程涵盖运动、技能、艺术等三大类，目前候选课程已达到近三十门。如何让选修课更加贴近学生需求，并提供孩子们展示所学的舞台，点亮其成长的星空，是初中部选修课程研究、设计、落实和推动的重要方向。今天，让我们一起来看看孩子们的篮球选修课和电声乐队选修课吧。
Within the curriculum of SIPFLS Junior School, the non-academic courses are popular among young learners, including categories such as Sports, Skills and Art. So far, the School has developed nearly 30 non-academic courses for our students. SIPFLS Junior School is committed to designing a scientific non-academic curriculum, keeping in line with the demands and needs of our students. The School seeks to provide students with a platform to show what they have learnt in class. Today, let's take a look at two typical courses, including Basketball and Electroacoustic Band.

青春赛场，如风少年
Battle of Youth
篮球课是初中部运动类选修课程之一，也是常规体育课的成果展示。从课程目标看，学生从事篮球运动，可以有效地促进身体素质的全面发展，有利于培养勇敢、顽强、竞争、拼搏的进取精神和良好的团队作风。篮球课程的基本内容包括：了解体育与健康的知识，掌握科学锻炼身体的方法，训练终身体育的技能。而在篮球选修课的基础之上，初中部学生成立了一支篮球队伍——Storm!
Basketball is one of the non-academic courses within the curriculum of SIPFLS Junior School, acting as a show stage of the compulsory P.E. course. From the perspective of its objectives, Basketball class enables students to master the basketball fundamentals，enhance their physical development, and help them become a good team player with courage, tenacity and strength. Nevertheless, students from the class also set up a school basketball team called “Storm”.

2019年6月12日下午，爱美高2019年篮球赛在苏州工业园区星汇学校体育馆隆重举行，共有多个国际学校篮球队联合参加。初中部Storm篮球队力挫群雄，荣获冠军。队员凌德森说，“谢谢园外给我们提供的比赛机会，也希望园外以后的学生也可以在球场上发扬光彩。每一次挥洒的汗水，每一次为球队做出的贡献，这一幕幕都会成为我这辈子最珍贵的回忆之一。”
2019 Amigo Basketball Competition took place in the gymof Suzhou Industrial Park Xinghui School on the afternoon of June 12, 2019. Thougha couple of basketball teams from international schools participated in thecompetition, our school team “Storm” won the championship. Ling Desen from theTeam said, "Thank SIPFLS for giving us such a good opportunity. We hopethat more students from SIPFLS can sweat in the stadium. All the time I spenton basketball has become the most precious memories of my life."

The Song of Youth
苏州工业园区外国语学校初中部电声乐队是初中部开设的选修课程之一，也是初中音乐课程的重要延伸。乐队名称源于美国当代著名诗人詹姆斯·赖特的诗歌《Blessing》，宗旨在于，让孩子们在园外无忧无虑，快乐学习，并尽情享受音乐带来的美好时光。两位主唱郭晴、吴悠同学，获得2018年园区中小学独唱、独奏、独舞“三独比赛”独唱类一等奖。让我们来问他们几个问题，听听他们的心声吧。
Electroacoustic Band is another non-academic course offered in SIPFLS Junior School, serving as an extension of the compulsory Music course. The band is named after the poem "Blessing" by James Wright, a famous American poet. It aims to use music to motivate and engage teenage learners. Guo Qing and Wu You, two lead singers of the band, both have won the first prize in the SOLO categories of 2018 Suzhou Regional Competition.

Why do you name the band “Blessing”?
张文硕：觉得有诗情画意。
Zhang Wenshuo: I think it is romantic.
杨昀欣：我们希望乐队越办越好，乐队的成员越来越优秀。
Yang Yixin: We hope that the band will grow bigger and its members will become better.
朱文萱：因为希望别人想起我们乐队就想起祝福。
Zhu Wenzhao: Because I wish people could recall blessing when they see or hear the band name.
郭晴：希望给人们带来快乐开心的心情。
Guo Qing: I hope to bring joy and happiness to others.
陶晔：鼓励人心，能够祝福大家。
Tao Wei: We want to inspire and bless everyone.
黄星越：本意为祝福，我们想给在场的所有观众一个美好的祝福。
Huang Xingyue: The intention is to bless, to bless all the audience present.

What is the style of your band?
吴悠：随意就好，天天换歌就是风格！
Wu You: whatever, we change style every day!
张文硕：十分优雅
Zhang Wenshuo: Light and elegant.

Yang Yixin, Guo Qing, Tao Wei: Pop.
朱文萱：酷酷酷
Zhu Wenzhao: Just cool.

3 l 你们通常会怎么安排乐队的排练时间？
会为了考试放弃排练吗？
How do you schedule your rehearsal?
Will you give up the exams in order to rehearse?
我们会利用选修课的时间排练，一周2小时。当然，学习还是很重要，如果遇到考试就要压缩排练时间了。
We usually make use the time in the non-academic course to rehearse, two hours a week. Yet, academic courses are very important to us. Thus, we have to reduce the rehearsal time during the exam seasons.
4 l 通常你们会在哪里演出? 会演出什么曲目？
Where do you usually perform? What kind of songs?
学校礼堂，体育馆。
Basically, in Auditorium or Gym, it depends.
《try》，《little love》，《去年夏天》，还有Taylor Swift的歌，还有一些大家都喜欢的曲子。
We sing songs like Try, Little Love, Last Summer as well as some popular songs from famous singers such as Taylor Swift.
5 l 音乐或者乐队对你而言，意味着什么？有没有给你带来某些变化？
What does music or the band mean to you? Does it bring any changes to you?
张文硕：舞台让我更自信了
Zhang Wenshuo: The stage helps me build confidence.
杨昀欣：乐队对我而言意味着快乐和放松，我对音乐有了更深的理解。
Yang Yixin: The band means happiness and relaxation to me, which enables me to have a deeper understanding of music.
朱文萱：乐队对我而言是一个给我平台去展现自我的地方，让我学会了团队合作
Zhu Wenzhao: The band is a platform to show myself, teaching me to be a good team player.
李纬凡：乐队对我而言很重要，使我弹键盘的水平提高了不少。
Li Weifan: The band means a lot to me. It helps me to improve my keyboard skills.
郭晴：音乐对我来说是一个放松时间，每次听到音乐我都会很开心。
Guo Qing: Music is a relaxing tool for me. I am so happy when I hear the music.
陶晔：乐队对我而言意味着梦想与追求，让我更坚定地为之努力。
Tao Wei: The band is a good reminder of my dream and I will work hard.
黄星越：乐队最重要的是团队合作，没有个人英雄主义，作为鼓手，相当于乐队的中心，所有速度与节奏类型都由鼓手掌控，所以在这其中我也学会了顾及他人的感受。
Huang Xingyue: The key is team spirit. There is no hero. As a drummer, I am supposed to the backbone of the band, controlling the speed and rhythm. By doing so, I have also learned to take care of others.
