Books are the ladder of human progress! It is an important pathway for the comprehensive development of human qualities. Not only does it broaden students' knowledge, but it also enables them to form excellent qualities such as integrity, diligence, friendship, and family devotion. Reading helps develop compassion and cultivates personal growth!

SIPFLS International High School 8th World Book Day aims to promote 'Humanistic and Perfect,' with the theme 'Reading Books, Nourishing Humanity'. The campus-wide book reading activities began enthusiastically in mid-October with the objective of supporting both teachers and students in fostering a love for reading. As a result, a vibrant reading culture has been cultivated within the campus, departments, and classes, inspiring students to become lifelong readers.

Reading share
Teachers from our language groups recommend books to students of different grades and initiated a "Let's Read Together" campaign. To assess students' reading achievements, teachers also organized various activities for their classes, such as writing online newsletters and book reviews, drawing posters, and quizzes.
In addition to the international high school department's activities, we organized a series of interdisciplinary reading events with other departments. For Chinese language learning groups, students performed a skit based on the adaptation of "Brave Little Pterosaur" and a comic book reading of "The Story of Gasoline." Together, the concepts of kindness and humanity and the importance of environmental protection have been acquired beyond the reading of books.

For German language learning groups, our high school students led a book reading and sharing session of "The Little Prince” to the primary school class. Students could immerse themselves in the Little Prince's adventurous journey, delving into profound themes such as friendship and responsibility. During this interactive session, students showed great enthusiasm, actively asking questions, sharing their insights into reading, and fully appreciating the magic and charm of books.

As for our English language learning groups, international high school students from English A class conducted a graphic novel lesson for IMS9. Inspired by the graphic novel ‘Persepolis’ by Marjane Satrapi they are currently studying, our English A students led IMS9 to create a graphic version of Ray Bradbury’s ’There Will Come Soft Rains’. This project not only highlights the great collaboration but more importantly helps students understand the power of image.

Pre-IB10 students, led by inspiring English teacher, Ms. Sheena, performed an adaptation of “Forrest Gump”. Students and teachers were deeply touched by this unique portrayal exemplifying the spirit of perseverance. To further inspire a love for reading in students, a quiz competition was held, focusing on two renowned literary works: “Journey to the West” and “American Born Chinese”. This competition was not only a test of knowledge but also a showcase of participants’ profound understanding of the World Book Day theme. Finally, this World Book Day event not only signifies the culmination of our book-reading campaign but also marks a milestone for the continuity of reading.
